Teaching and Learning

A happy and successful learning experience

At Ashby School we want our students to have a happy and successful learning experience. Exploring and developing learners is at the core of all we do and conversations about Teaching and Learning are at the heart of the school.

We recognise that students learn best in a positive, supportive and consistent environment. Well prepared and stimulating lessons encourage good attendance, positive behaviour and enable students to make progress and strive to achieve their potential. A teacher must plan, facilitate learning and be a good classroom manager. Guidelines are included in the Ashby Teaching Expectations document.

Our teachers are committed to continue learning to ensure the best classroom practice. We are proud to lead the way. Our aim is for all students to achieve their full potential and to leave feeling genuinely empowered to learn.

Monitoring and Evaluation

We are interested in each other’s classrooms and have an open door policy where we share experience, practice and support. Our Senior Leadership Team is present and involved within the classrooms. Lesson visits and learning walks are often themed in order to focus areas.

Observations are unannounced and provide opportunities to monitor and evaluate the learners and teaching. The teaching and learning team is valued and provides constant support to explore and develop practice.

Support

It is important that all teachers at Ashby make progress at whatever level they are at. We provide comprehensive support for our newly qualified staff and also continue to explore and develop practice through our Lead Practitioner Team. This can involve observing, planning and team teaching.

We have also established a group of lead teachers to challenge practice in order to access the highest level of teaching and learning and achieve their potential.

LiFE Multi Academy Trust
